AHP Career Track: Newsletter Editor

Back Country Horsemen of America (BCHA) is a 501c-3 non profit service organization with over 13,000 members, chapters in 26 states scattered across the United States and individual memberships in 47 states.  We are currently accepting bid proposals for Editor of the BCHA newsletter issued four (4) times annually with a printing quantity of 11,500 copies per issue. Bids must be received by March 1, 2010 and contract awarded on May 1, 2010.  Summer 2010 will be the first issue published under this contract.

Editor Request For Proposals

Bid shall include all items listed below 

  1. Newsletter issued four (4) times annually. Currently a 12” x10.75” page size, 24 to 28 page count. Circulation is over 10,000.  Quote rate per issue.

  2. Editor will write, compile, edit and format electronic text and forward to the Newsletter designer for each quarterly newsletter by negotiated time frame.

  3. Editor will review and select submitted photographs for quality for inclusion in the newsletter.  The Designer will have the final decision on photographs.

  4.  Editor will work closely with the Media & Marketing Chair or appointed representative selecting appropriate material, soliciting articles from key board members and regional representatives.

  5. Editor will provide electronic draft of newsletter, provided by designer, to Media & Marketing Chair or appointed representative for review within a specific time frame to be determined. Editor will be responsible for approval of final draft and providing copy to designer.

  6. Deadline for delivery to printing contractor by editor of approved final draft of newsletter shall be 20 working days from submitted article dates of December 5th, March 5th, June 5th, Sept. 5th, or negotiated date prior to starting the process.

  7. Work closely with the BCHA Newsletter Designer, Web Editor, and BCHA Executives to expedite and disseminate information through the appropriate venue (i.e. reviewing time sensitive information and making the determination if it is more appropriate for the website versus the newsletter).

  8. It is a plus if the Editor has knowledge of BCH or other closely related equestrian recreational volunteer oriented organizations.

BCHA Responsibilities

  1. BCHA members will provide written permission with submitted reprint articles. 

  2. BCHA will provide all text, logos, photos, graphics submitted to BCHA electronically per issue deadlines of December 5th, March 5th, June 5th, Sept. 5th, or negotiated time frame.

  3. BCHA Media & Marketing Chair or an appointed representative will review a draft of each issue of the newsletter that has been emailed by editor. The Media & Marketing representative will also work within time frames so that the issue may be published on a timely basis.  Suggested changes will be emailed to the editor within a negotiated time frame.

 Following successful completion of each issue, BCHA is responsible for payment to the Editor upon receipt of an invoice. Payment is made on a Net 30 basis.
