AHP Career Track: Editor
The Paint Horse Journal, the official monthly breed publication of the American Paint Horse Association based in Fort Worth, Texas has an immediate opening for a full time Editor. This position requires an individual who has the understanding of the purpose and mission of an official breed publication. The successful candidate should have strong leadership skills, an eye for detail and a passion for producing a high quality magazine that will appeal to all of our readers.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Develop, supervise and motivate a team of 4 to 5 employees
- Plan and direct over-all activities of the department
- Oversee circulation
- Write and photograph feature stories
- Ensure publication schedules are met
- Maintain an editorial calendar and database
- Plan and manage department budget and business accounts
The Editor must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate with APHA members and the Board of Directors as well as present reports to the Executive Committee and management. He or she must also be flexible, willing to travel, able to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment. The Editor will oversee the association’s other publications – Connection and Paint Racing. The successful candidate will be able to manage the editorial team and will work closely with Marketing, Sales and graphics on a daily basis. He or she must have a college degree in Journalism or English, should have a minimum of four (4) to six (6) years editorial and photography experience preferably in the Equine Industry.
