| University of Arkansas, Fayetteville | Ann is a junior at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville majoring in Animal Science with minors in Equine Science and Journalism. She aspires to work in the equine industry doing graphic design, web design or photography. She has been in the U of A horse program for two years and owns a seven-year-old Appaloosa gelding. Her photo will be featured on a published handbook and also this year’s sale catalog at U of A auction. This summer, she wrote animal science publications for NCAT’s ATTRA project. |

Sheila Brady |
| Johnson & Wales University | Sheila has been around horses since before he took her first steps. She decided that the only career she'd enjoy enjoy would have to involve horses. She is now a senior studying equine management/riding, a icensed riding instructor, upper level dressage/jumper rider, and operate a small web site where she publishes her writing. Megan Brincks |
| University of Nebraska - Lincoln | As a journalism student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Megan has had many opportunities to write and edit including several reporting courses, an internship with the Hooved Animal Humane Society in Woodstock, IL., for the summer of 2009, and currently an internship with the Paint Horse Journal in Fort Worth, TX. After graduation, she would like to pursue a career in equine publishing, writing and/or editing. She has ridden horses since she was about 9 years old, and it is a hobby she wants to continue for the rest of her life. She feels fortunate that she has found a way to combine her passion for the written word with her love of horses. |

Jada M. Buchanan |
| Ball State University | Jada is an AHP 2010 Student Travel Award Winner and majors in Public Relations at Ball State University. Horses have always been a part of her life. She has been riding and showing horses since she was a preschooler. Horses helped to instill confidence in her abilities. Writing news releases and feature stories for Hoosier Park allowed her to gain valuable experience. Several of her stories were picked up by newspapers and two of her feature stories were published in Horse Resource Magazine. She expects to gain additional equine publishing skills during her internship at Arlington Park Racecourse this summer. Her ultimate goal is to obtain a public relations position in racing or for a breed association. |

| Penn State University | Arianna is a senior majoring in Journalism/English at Penn State University. She has been riding since she was four years old, competing as part of the USHA and NJHSA. She competes with her own horse in hunter divisions. She is on the Penn State Equestrian Team, competing in ISHA. Last summer, she worked for Horse Magazine in UK and has worked on the school yearbook and the team alumni newsletter. She would love to work for an equine magazine after graduation and is trying to further her career in the industry. |

Holly Eggelston |
| Indiana University - Fort Wayne | Holly is a senior majoring in English and Communications Media with a minor in Professional Writing. She has been riding for 13 years and worked at a riding camp for five years. She started an equestrian team and worked as barn manager at her coach’s barn. She has written several professional documents to represent the IPFW Equestrian Team including brochures and flyers. She is working on a team web site and English Department newsletter. Through her writing, she wants to be advocate for horse health and welfare and to educate horse owners. She wants to help the horse publications industry grow stronger by being an active part of the industry. |

Valentina Escobar-Gonzalez |
| University of Phoenix | For several years, Valentina has been contemplating joining AHP for its source of networking between equestrians and companies. She currently writes for Horse and Pony News, Florida's oldest and largest equine publication. She is pursuing her MBA degree with the University of Phoenix, concentration in Marketing. She majored in Equine Industry at the University of Florida. When she graduated, she was unable to find a job in the industry and dedicated herself to developing her web site and blog related to the latest and unique events happening in the equine industry. She hopes to find a position in marketing for a corporate company such as equine health and nutrtion after completing her MBA. |

Carrie Gilliam |
| Kansas State University | Carrie is a junior at Kansas State University majoring in Agricultural Communication and Journalism. She grew up learning how to ride and care for a horse. She also was a member of the 2009 Kansas State University Horse Judging team. Her background and experiences have led her to develop a passion for the equine industry. Combining this with her journalism ability, she wants to make an impact on the agricultural industry by showing them what equine can do for them while improving and expanding the equine industry. She is able to do this with her experience in Dole Hall at Kansas State University writing Research and Extension articles for the state of Kansas. |

Kayla Grant |
| Oklahoma State University | Kayla would like to pursue a career writing for equine-related magazines such as ones published by the American Paint Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and the National Reining Horse Association. She has been riding and showing horses since she was eight years old. Her show background includes western pleasure, hunter under saddle, and reining in the Kansas and Oklahoma Paint and Pinto Horse Associations. Since she is only a freshman at OSU majoring in agricultural communications, she has yet to obtain publishing experience. She has joined AHP to expand her knowledge in the area of equine publications. |

Sonya Julie |
| Western Dakota Technical | Sonya’s goal in equine publishing is to write articles for equestrian publications which includes magazines, local equine newsletters/newspapers, and for equestrian travel-related publications. She plans to write equestrian-themed fiction and is presently working on a book. Currently, she is an online student at Western Dakota Technical Institute in Rapid City, SD, where she is pursuing an Associate degree in Ag-Resources Tech with an emphasis in Equine Business Management. She also has a Bachelors of Business Administration. She rode horses when she was a child and has been riding again for the past five years as an adult. She enjoys trail riding, equitation, and Hunter/Jumpers. She also enjoys volunteering at the local equestrian therapeutic center as a side-walker. Her publishing experience includes writing for her company newsletter over the past eight years. Her articles cover topics such as travel, equestrian activities and gardening. She plans to start a blog related to equestrian travel. Being a professional writer is her career goal so she was excited to find this organization and believes it will be a perfect fit for her interests. |

Lisa Kucharski |
| Truman State University | Lisa is a freshman majoring in Communications/Journalism with a minor in Equine Science. Growing up around horses, Lisa has always known that she wanted her career to be in the horse industry. Twelve years of 4-H has provided her with extensive hands-on experience from basic care to state champion level competition. She’s gained knowledge through horse bowl, hippology and judging and developed a passion for communications through public speaking. Attending AHP seminars over the last 10 years with her mother, who is editor for The Sentinel, has exposed her to the world of equine publishing and discovered a potential career path combining her love of the horse with her aptitude for writing, creativity and speaking. She is starting her journey as staff writer for her college paper, The Index. |

Jessica La Belle |
| University of Alaska Anchorage | Jessica has been involved with horses for 11 years and during that time she has taken her Hanoverian gelding from Fourth Level dressage to bridleless riding. She started her Quarter Horse gelding herself and is currently preparing him for a dressage career. She is greatly interested in combining the training techniques of English and Western riding. It was through a local reining trainer that she became involved with Les Vogt’s COWHORSE U. She co-authored and edited the book portion of this program. She is currently majoring in English and working as a staff writer for the Alaska Horse Journal, but her goal is to be a part of the creative team of a national horse publication such as Dressage Today, Horse Illustrated or EQUUS. |

Sonja Langseth |
| South Dakota State University - Brookings | As a typical girl, Sonja fell in love with horses, but never fell out. She purchased her first horse as a weanling in 1999. Over the years, she continued to increase her abilities with horses utilizing her communication and relationships with community members and horse enthusiasts to maximize her learning. She enrolled in the Bureau of Land Management Adopt-A-Wild-Horse program and successfully adopted and rehabilitated two mustangs. As a college freshman, her goal was to become a physical therapist, however as she progressed through English courses, she realized how much she enjoyed writing and changed her major to English. As a junior, she is seeking a degree in Agricultural Journalism and double majoring in Animal Science and Journalism while triple minoring in Agricultural Business, Business, and Equine Studies and Management. Upon graduation, she hopes to complete hands-on research while incorporating her field experiences with a magazine company within the equine industry. |

Kate Lautenbach |
| Wilson College | Kate is a student at Wilson College seeking a career in equine journalism. Her publishing experience includes writing for the college newspaper as well as her own experiments in equine graphic design. Her topics in the newspaper have ranged anywhere from the campus computers to the campus hunt seat show. Her equine background is extensive and ranges from hunter/jumper rider to barrel racing. She began taking regular hunter/jumper lessons at a young age and advanced to second level jumping. She had an opportunity to show a young filly as her 4-H production project in the PA 4-H State Horse Show. During her 4-H project’s three-year-old year, she helped to prepare her for under saddle work and the first ride. During this time, she also competed in International Barrel Racing Association open shows. Later, she helped rehabilitate and train a rescue horse for lower division barrel racing. Her career plans are to write about the horse industry with a concentration in the rodeo circuit or western riding events. She does find English riding intriguing however and plans to do a reasonable amount of reporting in that area as well. |

Rebecca Lippert |
| University of Louisville | Rebecca is a sophomore at the University of Louisville majoring in Communications and minoring in Equine Business Management. Her horse experience started at age 8 in 4H showing a borrowed horse. During high school she showed her own horse in the POA circuit at all levels. She no longer rides competitively but continues to stay involved with horses when not at school. She has four years of high school yearbook, including two as the senior editor. She enjoys writing, expecially poetry, and has had several poems published. She has taken photographs for Louisville's student newspaper, The Cardinal, and hopes to get more involved with that. She plans to combine her passion for horses with her education and experience in a career in equine publishing as a writer, designer, and editor. |

| University of Florida | Avery is a junior majoring in Agriculture Education and Communications. Her ideal future career would be one that involved working on a farm or publication focusing on their public relations efforts. She has been showing horses since age 5; strictly Quarter Horses since she was 11. Most recently, she was a member of the Auburn University Equestrian Team. Kimberly N. Strate |
| Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College | Ever since Kimberly was born her family told her she loved horses. Her father surprised her with her first horse at age nine. In high school, she worked at stables in exchange for lessons. She has been involved in 4-H and FFA and showed in everything from western pleasure to equitation, jumping to dressage, trail to barrel racing, team penning to helping local ranchers move cattle. She's happy just as long as she's in the saddle. She completed her A.S in Animal Science with a emphasis in Equine from Kirkwood Community College. Following college, she did an internship at a stable in Pennsylvania and continued working there as assistant barn manager. After returning to Minnesota, she decide to pursue a degree in Marketing at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College. Her dream career would be to work with horses and help people with horses by communication in all aspects. |

Jennifer Lynn Whittle |
| University of Kentucky | Jennifer is a 2009 AHP Travel Award Winner. She grew up on a small horse farm in Kentucky where her family raised Appaloosa horses. She has been riding and working with horses since she could walk. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in December 2009 with a degree in Agricultural Communications. During her time at UK, she has worked for eXtension.org and developed countless internet skills. In the summer of 2009, she interned for Kim Brown at The Horse and TheHorse.com. Her future plans involve working with online equine publications and developing websites for horse farms. Currently, she is pursuing a master's degree at UK in Career, Technical, and Leadership Education. |
