Communique: Halliday continues busy eventing schedule

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

06 May 2008

Liz Halliday has continued her intensive 3-day eventing programme over the past couple of weeks with horses Fox, Harry and Donovan.

Fox and Harry took on the Open Intermediate class at Hambledon, with Donovan making his Novice class debut at the same venue, as well as competing at Nurstead Court.

Fox continued his excellent 2008 form with a double clear at Hambledon, meaning he has yet to have a rail down this year, while Harry enjoyed a positive return to competition for the first time in over a year. Donovan also produced good displays at both events as he continues his development.

Halliday said: "It was Fox's first run since Barroca in March and Harry's first for a long time, so I didn't push them too hard, but I was delighted with their performances.

"Fox jumped a double clear to continue his great form this year and Harry had one rail down in the Show Jumping and then had a confident clear round on the Cross Country. It was a good first run for him and now he'll go to Aston-le-Walls next Thursday and also contest the Houghton Hall International CCI 2* event later in May."

Donovan meanwhile continues to shine and belied his inexperience with two fine showings.

"He got a score of 29 in his Dressage test at Hambledon which put him second overall," Liz said. "I was thrilled with that and he followed it up with a clear round in the Show Jumping. On the Cross Country phase he had an unfortunate run-out at the first water jump, but it was a difficult fence and I shouldn't have taken the straight route on such an inexperienced horse. It was my mistake, but he was brilliant around the rest of the course so I feel that overall it was a positive experience and we have both learned from it."

"At Nurstead Court he had a rail down on a difficult course in the Show Jumping test and was clear on the Cross Country. We had a few time faults though because the breast plate holding the saddle came loose and I had to reach round and grab it for the whole course! It was interesting to say the least! I am very pleased with Donovan though as he went really well despite our problems with the tack."

Halliday is next in action on Friday 9 May as Harry takes on an Open Intermediate class at Aston-le-Walls. She then heads straight up to Chatsworth on 10-11 May where Fox will compete in the CIC 3*, and Oscar will contest his first Advanced class.
