In an effort to help horseback riders and all outdoor enthusiasts protect their trail access on public lands, the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource has formed a strategic alliance with Tread Lightly!
The alliance was formed because access to healthy public lands and waters for recreation is of importance to both organizations. ELCR has identified the loss of open land as a great threat to the future of all horse sport, recreation, and the equine industry.
To prevent or reduce trail closures resulting from negative environmental impacts and social conflict, ELCR and Tread Lightly! will disseminate information, which advocates an ethic of stewardship for the land and fellow trail users. The information available includes a series of brochures for motorized vehicle users that provide tips like what to do when approaching horses or pack animals.
“ELCR is pleased to collaborate with Tread Lightly! to further our mutual goals of recreational access and shared use whenever possible on public lands and trails,” said Deb Balliet CEO of the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource.
ELCR is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the conservation of land for horse related activity. Tread Lightly! is an organization dedicated to protecting recreation access and opportunities in the outdoors by advocating an ethic of stewardship and promoting responsible use of natural resources.
Together, these organizations will provide information on land use and stewardship to thousands of horsemen and equine organizations.
