Kennett Square, PA (August 19, 2010) -- The Women's Horse Industry Association is pleased to announce that Lua Oas Southard, CEO of Equine Resources International, LLC, will be one of the featured speakers at the WHIA's 2nd annual conference.

The conference will be held September 22-23, 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky at the Crown Plaza Airport Hotel and is open to members and non-members of the association. The theme of the conference is "Marketing and making the most of your horse industry business".

Lua's publishing, marketing and advertising career started in 1969; in 1973 she helped launch the national publication Practical Horseman. For 11 years, Lua was President and CEO of Southard & Associates, one of the nation's largest equine-oriented advertising agencies. In 1991 she was enticed to return to the publishing industry by Cowles Magazines. During her six-year tenure at Cowles, Lua was, among other things, the publisher of Practical Horseman. She also served as Director of Equine Marketing for all of Cowles equestrian titles and forged a joint marketing agreement between Cowles and the American Association of Equine Practitioners for a 400-page book, titled Hands-on Horse Care, published by Horse & Rider magazine. Lua is a Past President of American Horse Publications, a national, non-profit association dedicated to promoting better understanding and communication within the equine publishing industry, and she served two terms on the National Western Heritage Month Board.

Currently her company, Equine Resources International, LLC, is the management company for the American Equestrian Trade Association (AETA), a not-for-profit organization.  Assisted by a partnership with Hopper Expositions, Inc., AETA serves to unite the equine industry and support connections between equestrian manufacturers and retail buyers with two successful trade shows per year at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA.

"Lua brings to our event substantial credentials in all areas of marketing and advertising and we know that the attendees will learn a lot from her at the event. We are very pleased that she will be there sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience," states Catherine Masters, Executive Director of the WHIA.

"I'm excited to be asked to be a speaker at the second annual conference for The Women's Horse Industry Association.  Marketing is near and dear to my heart and is an ever-evolving learning opportunity. Just about when you think you know it all, you find out you don't.  Social media, for example, is something we all need to learn more about.  I really look forward to being able to share some marketing tips with the group."

In addition to speakers and panel discussions, the two day conference will also include a variety of exhibitors offering some of the newest and most innovative equine products on the market. Limited exhibit space is still available but is being offered on a first come, first serve basis. The conference is open to members and non-members of the WHIA.
