SOUTH DAYTONA, January 27, 2012 –American Horse Publications members eagerly await the announcement of the awards contest rules every year. The 2012 AHP Annual Awards Contest for material published in and dated 2011 is officially underway and contest rules are now available at http://www.americanhorsepubs.org/programs/awards/. This year’s contest includes 65 classes in four divisions: Print Publication, Digital Media, Open and Special Awards. Classes cover everything equine-related from editorial content to design to photography to online media to books.
Held since 1974, the AHP Annual Awards Contest provides members with an opportunity to be recognized for excellence in equine publishing, both print and digital media. The Awards Committee reviews the contest rules and procedures annually for improvement, clarity, fairness, and variety. As the publishing industry evolves, this task becomes more challenging, but this year the committee feels it has made some really good advances to keep the classes adapted to the modern publishing industry.
Why do members enter the contest?
Rewarding accomplishment – Nothing feels better than being recognized for your work. Whether you are staff, a freelancer, or business, achieving excellence in your field is rewarding and demonstrates high standards. All finalists receive a plaque as class winner or a certificate for second, third or honorable mention. Staff members and freelancers love receiving these as recognition of their achievement.
Constructive critique – Every entry receives a constructive critique from the judges. These comments can help members to improve their work or be rewarded for a job well done.
Promotion – Members can spread their publishing excellence to the equine world by promoting and publishing their awards.
Resume builder – Freelancers can add their awards to resumes to build their reputation in the equine publishing world.
AHP Executive Director, Chris Brune, performs the duties of processing the entries with assistance from Judy Lincoln and acquires the slate of professionals judges. The judges are rotated every year and given classes to judge in which they have professional expertise.
The rules for the 2012 Annual Awards Contest for material published in and dated 2011 are now available online at http://www.americanhorsepubs.org/programs/awards/.
