On Friday, May 15 during the AHP Equine Media Conference in Lexington, Ruby Tevis was presented with the 2026 AHP Equine Media NextGen Award trophy by Barrie Reightler, AHP President.
The AHP Equine Media NextGen Award recognizes up-and-coming working equine media professionals who have made a significant impact in advancing equine media while upholding journalistic excellence, integrity and trust in a competitive communications world. This distinguished award is a unique opportunity to publicly recognize young equine media professionals whose commitment, dedication, and service have made their careers shine above the rest.
As her nominator, Natalee Herrig of TerraNova Equestrian Center, wrote, “I am nominating Ruby Tevis for the AHP Equine Media Next Gen Award because the award description is exactly how I would define Ruby.” Ruby has demonstrated a level of knowledge, experience and professionalism that “belied her age,” according to Herrig, “pairing humble confidence with a rare combination of deep equestrian expertise and journalistic skill.”
Ruby’s work is distinguished by its balance of tradition and innovation. Herrig noted, “Ruby presents herself with humble confidence authentically rooted in her vast knowledge of the equestrian industry and her expertise in the field of journalism, which is at once old-world in her attention to detail, precision, and truth – and cutting edge in her vision of what is possible and her ability to use technology.” Her writing reflects both technical excellence and a deep respect for the written word, guided by a “well-defined ethical compass” and a “journalistic sixth sense” that have already made a lasting impression on equine media.
At TerraNova, Ruby quickly expanded beyond her initial role, transforming outsourced media support into a comprehensive in-house operation, taking the initiative to develop media strategies and budgets, manage in-house and third-party staff, establish the brand, manage social media as well as all press releases and media outlet communications, and oversee the entire production of our TerraNova magazine. Through this work, Ruby has elevated both TerraNova and the broader equine media landscape, bringing the sport to life for diverse audiences while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and creativity.
