Work alongside experienced, award-winning staff, writing and reporting on Thoroughbred racing and breeding and the equine industry in Maryland. Primarily weekdays, 10-5

 

This internship offers opportunities to contribute content, learn processes and assist in the production of Maryland Horse Weekly, the association's weekly digizine, View from The Loft, the Maryland Horse Foundation's monthly newsletter, and our award-winning regional publication Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred. Mentoring from an award-winning, highly experienced and professional staff.

 

Opportunities include interviewing owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys and others, writing race previews and recaps, writing feature articles, securing photo assets, and helping the editorial and design teams in various capacities, including proofreading, graphic design, layout and other tasks as needed. Intern may assist with creating and scheduling content for the association's five websites and social media platforms. Additional opportunities to learn archiving practices with Maryland Horse Library and work on promotion projects for Maryland Million Ltd.

 

Open to college-level applicants who must have an aspiration to pursue a communications/journalism career and demonstrate enthusiasm and willingness to learn by doing and not just observing. They should have knowledge and interest in horse racing and equestrian sports, solid writing, interviewing and social skills, proofreading skills and knowledge of AP Style, and familiarity with Adobe software products and Microsoft software. Familiarity with WordPress and other CMS software, social media platforms, along with photography/video skills a plus. This is an immersive opportunity for the right young person.
