Downunder Horsemanship and Ritchie Industries recently teamed up at the Clemson, S.C. Walkabout Tour to give the Madison County 4-H Cowboys and Angels Drill Team the opportunity to raise over $4,600. The Georgia drill team is made up of riders 12 to 16 years of age who use Clinton Anderson’s horse training method during their practices to work their horses.
At each Walkabout Tour, Downunder Horsemanship and tour featured sponsor Ritchie Industries select a local non-profit group with equine connections to head up the Ritchie Ball Toss. Tour attendees purchase tennis balls from the non-profit organization for $5 throughout the weekend, and during the Ritchie Ball Toss held on Sunday of the event, throw them into the arena trying to be the closest to a pre-determined marker. Those closest to the marker receive prizes that consist of training DVDs and equipment.
The Cowboys and Angels Drill Team was selected to run the Feb. 4 and 5 Clemson, S.C. Walkabout Tour’s Ritchie Ball Toss to raise funds for its 4-H group. All money raised throughout the event went directly to the dedicated team. “Our team members absolutely loved every minute of the tour. They learned so much from Clinton. They will never forget this weekend!” Julia Highsmith, a team leader for the Madison County 4-H Cowboys and Angels Drill Team says.
Non-profit organizations that would like to apply to run the Ritchie Ball Toss at an upcoming Walkabout Tour may visit the Downunder Horsemanship website to fill out an application at https://downunderhorsemanship.com/events/walkabout-tour/charity-ball-toss/. Remaining 2017 Walkabout Tour stops include: Harrisburg, Pa., Monroe, Wash., Las Vegas, Nev., and Lake St. Louis, Mo.
