Hock Shields™ and Click Horse Products of Santa Cruz, California are proud to join in the 50th anniversary celebration of the California Dressage Society as sponsors of its Level I Open McLeod Perpetual Trophy for Horse of the Year, during the CDS Finals, September 21-24, at the Murieta Equestrian Center in Rancho Murieta.
The trophy, generously donated in 1979 by Stacy Burke, Susan Routson, Catherine Schroeder and Bud Swenson, was presented in 2016 to USDF Gold Medalist, Amelia Newcomb, of Somis, and her talented young chestnut gelding Gatsby, whose scores of up to 83% won the CDS First Level championship and reserve in the 5-Year-Old Futurity, and the pair finished second nationally at First Level in the Adequan/USDF Horse of the Year standings. Newcomb frequently clinics with Christine Traurig and is also a member of Southern California Equestrian Sports.
The California Dressage Society was formed in 1967 as a non-profit organization to further interest in dressage. It is now one of the largest dressage organizations in the nation with more than 4,000 members and underwrites educational events such as clinics, instructors’ seminars, Annual Meetings and an Annual Championship Show.
The inaugural CDS Annual Show was October 12-13, 1968 at Susan Davidge’s Etcetera Farm in Santa Ynez, with dressage class entry fees just $5 and stabling (including hay and bedding) costing just $4 per night. In 1972, Etcetera Farm hosted the national AHSA Senior Dressage Finals in conjunction with the then-fifth annual CDS Annual Show, achieving an unprecedented level of attendance for a West Coast dressage competition, coined in Dressage Letters as a “crush of humanity and horses.”
“Some of the best compliments about how Hock Shields keep horses looking and feeling their best come from dressage riders. Returning that support was an easy decision,” says Hock Shields creator and Click Horse Products president, Shari Click. The CDS sponsorship includes a booth at MEC where riders can find Click Horse Products including Hock Shields, Hock Shields Ultra, and Fetlock Shields, plus a link to www.hockshield.com from www.california-dressage.org
For difficult-to-bandage wounds or recurrent sores, Hock Shields® are preferred by Pro Equine Grooms, Long Riders Gear and Parelli Natural HorseManShip 5-Star Master Instructor, David Lichman. Learn more at www.hockshield.com or call (831) 426-1206.
