The International Hoof-Care Summit (IHCS) will take place Jan. 22-25 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The world’s largest equine footcare educational event and trade show will feature nearly 40 leading farriers, veterinarians and equine researchers who will help increase attendees’ equine hoof-care knowledge. This is the 16th annual IHCS, which was started by American Farriers Journal.
In addition to the education, the IHCS will honor three farriers and three veterinarians for their outstanding contributions to the equine footcare. Both halls have a permanent home at the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, Ky. The farrier exhibit includes the history behind the hall and handmade horseshoes donated by many of the Hall Of Fame members.
The International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame was established in 1992 to honor farriers for their significant contributions to footcare and the positive mark they left on horses, peers and clients.
Established in 1997, the International Equine Veterinarian Hall Of Fame honors practicing, teaching and research veterinarians who have a career of service to the horse (emphasis on footcare) or contributed to our understanding of equine biomechanics and foot health.
This year’s inductees into the International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame include Mike Savoldi (California), Don Gustafson (California) and the late John Boyne (Ireland). The new inductees for the International Equine Veterinarian Hall Of Fame include Melvin “Tookie” Myers (Virginia), Duncan Peters (Kentucky) and Lars Roepstorff (Denmark).
The new members will be formally inducted into the respective hall at the 16th annual IHCS at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 at the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The inductees will be formally introduced and presented with their award.
