Brooke USA is proud to announce the inaugural Crystal Awards, presented to outstanding champions of the organization who have gone above and beyond in support of its mission to significantly improve the welfare of working horses, donkeys, mules and the people they serve in the developing world. Brooke USA bestows the honor to Claudine and Fritz Kundrun, Margaret Hamilton Duprey and Katherine Kaneb Bellissimo. South Florida PBS (WPBT2 and WXEL), will honor the recipients of the Brooke USA Crystal Awards in 30-second announcements that will air on South Florida Public Television during prime-time through March 22, the date of Brooke USA's Sunset Polo™& White Party at The Wanderers Club. Dolores Sukhdeo, the President and CEO of South Florida PBS will present the awards at the event.
Fritz and Claudine Kundrun are animal lovers and supporters of the sport of dressage. Having spent time living in Pakistan, Fritz Kundrun has seen the plight of working equines firsthand and with his wife Claudine, has made it a priority to help. They devote their time, talent and treasure toward advancing Brooke USA’s goal of improving the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules and have been supporters of the organization since its founding. The Kundruns are Patrons of the Dorothy Brooke Society, which honors the passion and determination of Brooke’s founder, Dorothy Brooke. This giving society recognizes Brooke USA’s philanthropic leaders.
Margaret Hamilton Duprey is Brooke USA's Founding Ambassador and has been involved in the equestrian world all of her life. Her Cherry Knoll Farm is a household name in high-performance dressage and show jumping circles. Duprey was instrumental in helping Brooke USA complete the Women 4 Donkeys campaign that targeted improving the lives of donkeys and the livelihood of their women owners in Kenya. Thanks to a generous matching gift with the Kundruns, $200,000 was raised for the campaign. She continues to support the mission of the organization and serves on Brooke USA’s Sunset Polo™ & White Party honorary committee.
Katherine Kaneb Bellissimo is a member of Brooke USA’s board of directors and the founder and honorary chair of Brooke USA’s Sunset Polo™ & White Party, the organization’s signature fundraiser. The fourth annual event will be held Friday, March 22, at 5:30-11 p.m. at The Wanderers Club in Wellington, Florida. Bellissimo is a devoted campaigner for working equines and the people who depend on them in the poorest parts of the world.
“We are grateful for the time, effort and support Fritz and Claudine, Margaret and Katherine have invested in Brooke USA,” said Brooke USA Executive Director Emily Dulin. “They are truly advocates for working equines and we are so proud to know and work with them. We are very pleased to honor them with the first-ever Crystal Awards.”
The efforts of these remarkable people help make a difference alleviating the suffering of some of the 100 million equines working in the developing world to support the livelihoods of 600 million people.
