Flash-back to March, 2018: You should have seen the look on Fergus’s face when he was told he’d won himself a Spur! In the hands of cartoonist Jean Abernethy, Fergus took flight becoming a Fergusus to do exactly that. Western Writers of America Awarded a Spur to Jean’s book, Fergus and the Greener Grass.
Fast-forward March 2019: Western Writers of America have chosen Fergus and The Night Before Christmas as the Spur Award Finalist in their category, Best Western Storyteller/ Illustrated Children’s Book.
Fergus and The Night Before Christmas, was written and illustrated by Jean Abernethy, and published by Trafalgar Square Books, in September 2018. In these 35 illustrated pages, Fergus takes flight again, this time with his motley team on Christmas Eve, giving Santa the ride of his life! Unbeknownst to them, a small horse-crazy child is watching from her window. Written in rhyme to the thread of the classic Clement C. Moore poem, this is an ideal read-aloud for parents and grandparents to enjoy with little ones. Though it is sure to make you laugh, don’t be surprised if you feel a sentimental tear in your eye when you reach the last page. Recommended for ages 5 to 95.
“I haven’t had so much fun making a book, since… last year’s book!” Jean Abernethy remarked. “In creating this book, I designed text and artwork to carry the same thread silliness. Especially for Christmas, I wanted the illustrations to be beautiful as well as funny.”
