Award-Winning e-book Tevis Cup Magic Released as Soft Cover

“Every endurance ride has its challenges and difficulties, but the Tevis Cup has 100 miles of it. It’s extreme, challenging, relentless, frantic, exhilarating, heart-breaking, exhausting, exasperating, beautiful, treacherous, insane, exciting.”

Merri Melde’s Tevis Cup Magic: Taking on the World’s Toughest 100 Mile Endurance Ride, top book in American Horse Publication’s 2016 Equine Media Awards, has just been released as a paperback.

“Many people - myself included - still prefer the feel of a book in hand for reading, instead of a Kindle,” Melde said. “It was the right time to add a paperback version of this e-book.”

Tevis Cup Magic recounts in vivid detail Melde’s unplanned and unforeseen attempt at riding the bucket list Tevis Cup from Lake Tahoe to Auburn, California, considered by many to be the world’s toughest 100 mile endurance ride.

Within 18 hours of its going live on Amazon, Tevis Cup Magic became a best-seller, nabbing that coveted #1 Best Seller badge on Amazon, leaping to #1 in “Amazon Hot New Releases” in Horse Care, #1 in the category of Horse Racing (Books), as well as #2 in Horse Care (Books). “As an e-book it has been a favored read since I published it,” Melde said, “but I had no idea it would become a best seller. I think it proves, at least in one case, that print books still rate highly with readers.

“It’s obviously a popular book with endurance riders, but I’ve had so many complimentary comments about this story from horse lovers from all disciplines, and even people who have never ridden a horse. It makes great armchair reading - I lived through the adventure so you don’t have to!”

In addition to freelance writing and photographing for various equine magazines, Melde is also the author of Soul Deep in Horses: Memoir of an Equestrian Vagabond (e-book and paperback), and numerous e-stories, Racehorse Tales, drawn from her work as a racetrack groom, and Traveler Tales, created from her adventures as a world traveler.

Between conditioning and competing aboard the lovable Standardbred Hillbillie Willie in endurance rides, she’s currently working on event photography and on numerous other book projects and with several magazines.
