The AAEP Foundation, which from humble beginnings 25 years ago has grown into an important catalyst for programs and initiatives that are improving the welfare of horses around the globe, has received a $100,000 gift from the Schuler Family Foundation in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The generous gift will help the AAEP Foundation expand its outreach and impact through the award of more grants and scholarships for the sake of horses and those who care for horses. The AAEP Foundation’s priorities are education; equine research; and benevolence programs, including disaster preparedness and relief, Equitarian (working horse, donkey and burro) projects, and initiatives supporting horses at risk or in transition.
According to Schuler Family Foundation Treasurer Pamela S. Jones, the $100,000 commitment reflects “confidence in the future success of the AAEP Foundation. We applaud you for your plans to reach beyond veterinary practitioners to the broader equine community.”
The Schuler Family Foundation gift follows on the heels of anonymous $100,000 gifts received in both 2018 and 2017, designated by the donors for use toward area of greatest need and equine research, respectively.
AAEP Foundation Treasurer Dr. Lisa Metcalf said the gifts “are further proof that the AAEP Foundation is coming of age and increasing its visibility to horse owners who care deeply about the health and welfare of horses.”
Further positioning the AAEP Foundation for continued growth into its second quarter-century has been an upsurge in individual and corporate giving at the $5,000–$9,999 level, otherwise known as the Healthy Horses Circle; and an increase in planned estate gifts through the Halina Leonard Legacy Society, which includes nearly 30 members.
