EQUUS Film Festival Gallops Into 30th Annual BreyerFest Celebration

Announcing New Additions to EQUUS Event at BreyerFest

EQUUS Film Festival is proud to announce the Mustang Heritage Foundation will be joining us with their Virtual Reality Mustang Experience outside the Wrigley Media Group Theaters at the Kentucky Horse Park. We will also host a special screening of “Cobra: Follow Your Wild Heart From Wild to World Champion” with songwriter Peter Prince attending. Breyer model and special guest horse “Cobra the Mustang” will be retired from competition in a special ceremony at BreyerFest.

BreyerFest® a Salute to Horse Heroes, in Lexington Kentucky where EQUUS will highlight three of its Horse Hero documentaries on July 13th and 14th, 2019 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. EQUUS Film Festival at BreyerFest® is presented by the Kentucky Horse Park in the  Wrigley Media Grouptheater, located in the Visitors Center.

EQUUS’ festivities kick off on Saturday July 13th at 3:40 p.m. with special demonstrations and performances by Mario A. Contreras on the beautiful Andalusian stallion RA Maximo.  Mario is one of the stars from the documentary, “A Pony And His Boy”.  After Mario’s performance, he will be joined by Berry & Josh in the arena to say hello.  Sue Anne Wells and Michelle Adams, riding on Mustang Amis and Mustang Lil, from the documentary “When the Dust Settles”, will ride to narration by students from the Mustang Leadership Partners Program, Mya Humphrey, Justice Agnew, Elyzah Smith, Aniyah Clemons, Akira Jones, Amari Ryburn, Karla Navarro & Baile Kalaukoa.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday the 14th, EQUUS will feature a special “BreyerFest version” of the documentary “Mustang Saviors” by filmmaker David Glossberg about Braveheart’s Therapeutic Riding Center in Illinois, offering rehabilitation programs, utilizing rescued Mustang horses, for veterans suffering from PTSD.  At 11:45 a.m., watch a heartwarming story about an 8-year old boy with DOWN Syndrome and his 28-year old pony in “A Pony And His Boy: The Story of Berry & Josh” followed by “When The Dust Settles”, at 12:30 p.m., a poignant documentary about the Mustang Leadership Partners program in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Visitors can experience being out on the range with wild Mustang horses with the Virtual Reality experience from the Mustang Heritage Foundation.

EQUUS will also feature trailers of films coming to the 2019 EQUUS Film Festival.  These trailers include “Billy & Blaze”, a film based on the children’s books written and illustrated by C.W. Anderson that capture the special bond between horse and rider.  This film offers children a valuable respite for bruised imaginations, even in today’s fast paced age of hyper media and diminished attention spans;  “Horse Rescue Heroes”, a new reality TV show which will soon be airing on the EQUUS Film Festival On-Demand platform, tells the story of the heroes who rescue horses and find loving homes for them despite the overwhelming and  insurmountable challenges that are ever present.

EQUUS is proud to sponsor a Q&A with filmmakers David Glossberg of “Mustang Saviors”, Julianne Neal of “A Pony And His Boy”, and Sue Anne Wells of “When the Dust Settles”.  Cindy Erkel, Director of the exciting new feature film “Billy & Blaze”, in production now, will be on hand to share with the audience her work with this wonderful new film.

Actress turned horse rescuer, Payton Christian from the series, Horse Rescue Heroes, will be on hand to enlighten those interested in horse rescue. In addition to these cinematic geniuses, Suzanne Kopp-Moskow will introduce her new children’s book series, “Li’l Herc”, stories that detail the exciting adventures of Hercules and his girl Suzie.  “Li’l Herc” is based on Kopp-Moscow’s life experiences as seen through the eyes of her young Lusitano Gelding, Hercules, written by Suzanne Kopp-Moscow and beautifully illustrated by Beatrice Bulteau from Portugal.   The Q&A with these filmmakers, director and author will occur after the screenings on Sunday July 14th.

BreyerFest is Breyer Animal Creations’ annual celebration of horses held at the Kentucky Horse Park - A fabulous three-day family festival that combines the excitement of a horse fair with model horse activities!  Celebrate our 30th Anniversary July 12-14th, 2019 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.  Thirty years of BreyerFest will culminate in the largest ever celebration on record.  You do not want to miss this!

The seventh annual EQUUS Film Festival will take place in December 2019 at the Kentucky Horse Park.  EQUUS Film Festival is the first event of its kind to offer a home to the storytellers, from around the world, of the horse through feature films, documentaries, video’s, commercials and short films as well as cultural elements of fine equestrian art and literature.

Founded in 2013 by Lisa Diersen, President/Director, an avid equestrian who has spent her life in the company of horses.  Diana De Rosa, an international equine photographer and journalist, joined EQUUS in 2015 as NYC co-organizer.  The EQUUS Film Festival highlights and rewards the diverse and creative efforts of those who pay artistic homage to the horse.
