Banixx is thrilled to announce its new partnership with Eventing Star Ariel Grald, who just placed 10th in her first foray into the prestigious, physically-daunting Burghley Horse Trials with her mount Leamore Master Plan (aka Simon). In addition to that accolade, Ariel received the award for the highest placed first-time competitor at Burghley!
Ariel grew up around horses and was on a horse before she could walk. After riding her pony at local hunter/jumper shows, Ariel tried her hand at Eventing and quickly developed a passion for the sport. She soon rose to preliminary/one-star level, competing at the 2004 North American Young Riders’ Championships. This was followed by a partnership with Practically Perfect through intermediate level while Ariel began training his half-sister LBF Oleagh’s Image “Leah.”
A University of Vermont graduate, she began a career but soon decided to commit to Eventing full-time in search of upper-level success. After moving to Southern Pines, NC in 2012, she began riding horses for Annie Eldridge and is currently the head trainer at Annie's Setters' Run Farm. After winning several intermediate and two-star events and being named to the 2014 USEF Under 25 Developing Riders List, Ariel and Leah moved up to Advanced in the spring of 2015, winning the Carolina International Horse Trials. During this time, Ariel traveled to Ireland and found Leamore Master Plan, who Annie purchased as a 5 year old.
A 2019 recipient of the Jacqueline B. Mars International Grant, Ariel says, “It is an immense honor to receive the Jacqueline B. Mars International Grant. I’ve dreamed of competing in Europe, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity from the USET Foundation and Jacqueline Mars to make this goal a reality. It means a lot to have their support and faith in me and my horse. This trip will help us gain valuable international experience as we build towards representing the USA in the future. Grants such as this are crucial for Americans to compete abroad, and I’m very thankful for this exciting and educational opportunity.”
Banixx is excited to be able to supply Ariel with its premium quality, tissue-friendly products for her steeds which easily keep infection at bay so they can focus exclusively on peak performance. Ariel says this about Banixx: “Using Banixx medicated shampoo is the key to keeping my horses’ legs clean and irritation-free. The humid weather in both Ocala, FL and Southern Pines, NC can take a toll on horses’ legs, as inevitably they all seem to develop skin issues. However, daily use of the Banixx medicated shampoo and spray have kept my horses’ legs much healthier. Their legs are bathed daily with the medicated shampoo, and I don’t have to worry about their skin drying out because it contains zero soap and the marine collagen helps to moisturize and repair the skin and hair. Once their legs are dry, we apply the Banixx spray. Several of my horses have tall white socks and sensitive pink skin so they easily break out (and require additional scrubbing to keep clean!). The Banixx products are gentle enough to use on these horses, where other products that we were using just created their own set of problems. The Banixx spray also works great for eliminating the two most common leg problems I encounter: scruffy heels and the crud on horses’ cannon bones. By simply applying the Banixx spray every afternoon, these issues recede. I use Banixx spray daily on all of my horses’ legs to prevent skin issues.”
Another staple at Ariel’s barn is the Banixx Wound Care Cream that contains essential extracts such as aloe vera, oil of eucalyptus, chamomile and peppermint oil (to name a few), Chlorhexidine (2%), along with Marine Collagen as a moisturizing, rejuvenating agent. Ariel has seen good success with this on minor cuts. Proudly made in the USA, Banixx products will accompany Ariel as she plans for her next trips to Florida for the winter, then home to North Carolina in March and hopefully back to England in the spring of 2020.
