Megan Dushin, Masterson Method® Field Work coordinator and Equine Specialist training coordinator, demonstrated techniques to relieve stress and tension in the horse to youth in the Dressage4Kids Winter Intensive program at Hampton Green Farm in Wellington, Florida. Dushin’s demo introduced the young participants to the Bladder Meridian technique and other ways to connect with and help horses.
Led by two-time Olympian and U.S. Dressage Federation Hall of Famer Lendon Gray, Dressage4Kids is a nonprofit organization that provides educational and competitive opportunities for youth riders and the adults who support them. The Dressage4Kids winter program includes intensive training for aspiring young riders. The participants have a full schedule of learning that includes fitness, theory, tests, riding lessons, field trips and lectures on many pertinent subjects.
Dushin is a Minneapolis/Saint Paul-based Masterson Method certified practitioner and coach. She is the coordinator for the Masterson Method Equine Specialist program that helps therapy horses do their jobs better by teaching volunteers, staff and qualified clients and participants how to practice the basic principles of The Masterson Method.
“These Dressage4Kids riders are so mature and caring, thanks to Lendon's program that is modeled after the United States Pony Clubs, “ Dushin said. “I grew up in the Pony Club tradition thanks to my mother, Leona Dushin who founded ours in 1957. Lendon was a guest instructor at our Garrison Pony Club in 1970. How wonderful to come full circle.”
Dressage4Kids assistant Jessica Fan offered her horse, WooHoo, a Hanoverian gelding by Wonderful, for the demonstration.
ABOUT THE MASTERSON METHOD®
For horse owners, horse care givers and equestrians, The Masterson Method can deepen the bond between horse and human. It is a significant way to improve performance, open new levels of communication and develop the horse’s trust. Countless testimonials tell the stories of horses and humans that have been forever transformed for the better by The Masterson Method. Anyone can learn The Masterson Method.
The Masterson Method was developed by Jim Masterson after many years as a professional equine bodyworker. It is an interactive approach to equine massage in which the horse is an active participant. The practitioner learns to recognize and use the responses of the horse to their touch. Through the horse’s response the practitioner is able to locate and relieve tension in key junctions of the horse’s body that most affect performance. It is something done with the horse, rather than to the horse.
