To honor its theme of “Horse of a Different Color,” BreyerFest will hold a spotlight to uniquely-patterned and colorful horses, the wide spectrum of artistic expression found in the model horse hobby, and the art world that makes a statement with every brush stroke and sculpture.
“The artistry of Breyer is on full display with this year’s theme.” shares Jaime Potkalesky, Breyer’s Senior Events Manager. While traditionally held at the famed Kentucky Horse Park, this year’s event will be completely virtual while still providing engaging experiences BreyerFest attendees of all ages can enjoy.
BreyerFest’s belle of the ball is its Celebration Horse, Danash’s Northern Tempest. “Dani” is an Appaloosa-Friesian cross with striking leopard Appaloosa markings. Standing out from the herd of traditional bays, chestnuts, and greys, Dani and her owner Laura Reece are gaining attention in the hunter ring for their flashy appearance and beautiful movement. Dani’s hand-painted Breyer model comes exclusively with every Premium Access ticket.
Joining Dani are Guest Horses Queen of Hearts, a hunter mare with a colorful side; Rheverence+, a versatile buckskin overo Pinto half Arabian; and Apollo del Solis, a PRE stallion with green eyes and a metallic gold coat that’ll take your breath away! Both young and seasoned horse lovers are in for a treat, as attendees will have exclusive access to behind-the-scenes videos and interviews featuring these equine stars and their owners, as well as the opportunity to bring home their Breyer models.
BreyerFest has always been a family-friendly festival with something for everyone, and this year’s event won’t disappoint with extensive live and pre-recorded content, and a live broadcast hosted by Kimber Goodwin. Potkalesky explains, “BreyerFest is a celebration of the horse! Whether you are a horse-crazy kid or a budding artist, there is a workshop, seminar or demonstration for you! We have dozens of interviews, demonstrations and video content to inspire, entertain and educate.”
An event created by horse lovers for horse lovers, BreyerFest provides a fun and exciting chance to learn about unique horse breeds from around the world without having to travel the globe. Have you ever wondered what it may be like to ride an Icelandic horse at the tölt? Learn all about them and their unique gaits from Maggie Brandt of Léttleiki Icelandics, rider of Breyer model Sporður frá Bergi! Listen to and engage with Ginger Kathrens, award winning documentarist, about her work with wild mustangs and The Cloud Foundation. Get a better understanding of equine color genetics that create beautiful coat colors like perlino and champage with author Lesli Kathman, and learn about Breyer color history with Breyer historian Andrea Gurdon.
If you’re looking to get into a hands-on project, BreyerFest workshops are for you! Whether you’d like to learn how to create your dream horse through paint or sculpture, craft miniature tack for your models, or even make a fun scene in a lamp base – BreyerFest has a workshop for every skill level and facet of the model horse hobby. In addition to workshops, ticketholders can expand their real horse and model horse knowledge with seminars on topics such as Digital Sculpting with Maggie-Jenner Bennett and how to show your model horses. And if you’re looking for more creative inspiration, just wait until you see the entries for our Contests – themed Diorama, Costume, and Best Customs – featuring the work of over 400 artists from around the globe showcasing their amazing artwork!
