ADM Animal Nutrition is happy to announce James Lattimer, PhD has joined their team. Dr. Lattimer brings with him a lifetime of hands-on horse knowledge and equine nutrition expertise.
Dr. Lattimer was raised in south-central Kansas, and although he grew up around horses, it wasn’t until high school when he began team roping and calf roping that his passion for horses developed.
He attended Kansas State University, majoring in Animal Sciences and Industry and competed on the K-State Intercollegiate Horse Judging team. After graduating from KSU in 2002, he attended Oklahoma State University and graduated in 2004 with his M.S. in Equine Nutrition. From there, he taught equine-based courses at the College of Central Florida and Black Hawk Community College.
In 2009, he went back to KSU to obtain his Ph.D. in comparative nutrition on a USDA National Needs Fellowship. Following graduation in 2012, he accepted a technical nutritionist position at Nestle Purina in St. Louis, MO. In 2015, Lattimer had the opportunity to return to his alma mater as a faculty member in the Animal Sciences and Industry Department.
Dr. Lattimer also conducts research in the field of equine nutrition with an emphasis on the digestive physiology and gut microbiome of the horse. To date, he has obtained more than $500,000 in extramural funding to support his research program, published 13 original research manuscripts and 18 abstracts, and has one patent pending.
Dr. Lattimer also serves as the faculty supervisor for the KSU Horse Teaching and Research Unit and head coach of the Intercollegiate Horse Judging Team. In 2019, his team won both the APHA and AQHA World Championship Judging Contests, claiming two world titles in a single year. Lattimer is a member of the Equine Science Society, where he sits as a member of the Nutrition Committee. He is also a member of the American Society of Animal Science and the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists.
At ADM, Dr. Lattimer will be responsible for supporting sales teams, answering questions from our customers, new product development and ensuring that ADM is at the forefront of new developments in equine nutrition.
