Million Dollar Rider Kelby Phillips Joins the Bluebonnet Feeds Pro Rider Team

Bluebonnet Feeds announced the addition of another great athlete to its Pro Rider team, Kelby Phillips. Phillips has earned a championship at nearly every major NRCHA event, and recently became the youngest professional to earn the title of Million Dollar Rider.

“Kelby is not only loved within the industry,” says President John Langemeier, “but a great example of the perseverance and insight it takes to be a horseman of his caliber. Collaborating with great people, to solve the challenges of today’s horses through nutrition, is what drives our team. Our partnership with Kelby is a perfect example of exactly that.”

After learning about one of Kelby’s horses, who struggled to maintain weight and muscle, a Bluebonnet Feeds consultant set out to find a solution. With research-proven ingredients that support increased nutrient absorption, gut health and enhanced recovery – the Bluebonnet team felt confident that Equilene® Pro Care® could help.

“My first experience with Bluebonnet Feeds was feeding the Equilene Pro Care to one of my mares. I’ve had success on her,” explained Phillips, “but we’ve always had trouble keeping weight on her. She’s a bigger framed mare and has just never looked full.”

It didn’t take long for Kelby to see a change. “We started her on that feed, and within 30 days I could tell a big difference in her. She’s filled out so her body is full to her frame,” says Kelby, who was also cautious of any potential mental impacts. “She’s a bit of a nervous mare. I wouldn’t call her hot, but she thinks a lot. So we can feed her more of this grain, and have never had a problem with it making her busier or getting hot.”

The Bluebonnet Feeds consultants worked hand-in-hand with Kelby’s team to safely transition the rest of the barn. “The Bluebonnet team has been wonderful. Reed and all of the consultants,” says Phillips, “I feel comfortable calling them at any time and asking them questions.”

This month, Kelby Phillips will attend the first Invitational Fence Work Challenge at The Run For A Million, aboard his 2016 Snaffle Bit Futurity Championship partner, Duals Lucky Charm.
