Kimes Ranch Team Shines at The Run for A Million Inaugural Cow Horse Event

When it was announced that reining’s richest event, The Run for the Million, was adding a $150,000 added cow horse fence challenge to its 2021 schedule, the excitement level for this already thrilling weekend of competition was kicked up a notch. 15 of the NRCHA’s top professionals were invited to the South Point in Las Vegas to compete for a Champion’s check of $60,000. Included in this prestigious group was Kimes Ranch family members Clayton Edsall, Erin Taormino, and Chris and Sarah Dawson.

On the evening of August 20th, fans packed the South Point arena and this group of riders and their amazing equine partners did not disappoint. Fans were on their feet and the cheers were deafening for some of the most talented horses and riders in the industry. The cattle were tough, the riders were determined, and the horses gave their all. When the dust settled, the biggest check of the night went to NRCHA Million Dollar Rider Zane Davis after an impeccable run with the great Rubys Radar.

The Kimes Ranch team was on fire with one great run after another. Sarah Dawson and Travelin Miss Jonez took home the reserve champion title and over $22,000. Following close behind was Chris Dawson and CSR Lay Down Sally tying for the 3rd place finish with Clayton Edsall and Metallic Train. Erin Taormino was the last run of the night, and she and Im So Stunning ended the evening with a bang and a strong 7th place finish. The energy in the room was palpable, and it feels like a safe bet that cow horse will be back for the 2022 Run for The Million event.

The Kimes Ranch athletes sure hope so. Clayton Edsall shared his thoughts, “I feel like this was such a great platform for us to share the athleticism of our horses and the excitement that can only be found in the sport of cow horse. I met many people over the last few days who had made the trip specifically to watch the fence challenge which is pretty cool. I feel that tonight was a great representation of what our sport is all about.”

The Run For A Million took place Aug. 18-21 at the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas. To learn more about The Run For A Million, visit www.trfam.com
