The National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Museum with a gala to be held Thursday, June 2, 2022. The Honorary Gala Committee is being co-chaired by NSLM Board Vice Chair, Jacqueline B. Mars, and Jack S. “Jay” Griswold. Also serving on the Honorary Committee for the event are Anita M. Antenucci; John E. Cay, III; Karen H. Crane; Timothy J. Gardner; Winton S. Holladay; George S. Hundt, Jr.; Sheila Johnson; Susan S. Mullin; Mark J. Ohrstrom; Sarah F. Perot; Nicole H. Perry; Sarah L. Slack; John R. Staelin; and Viviane M. Warren.
Guests at the celebratory Gala will be treated to an evening of dinner and dancing, featuring live music by The Bob Hardwick Sound from New York, and an exclusive preview at the retrospective exhibition, A Decade Afield: Celebrating 10 Years of the NSLM’s Museum before it opens to the public on June 3.
The dream of the Museum took its first steps to becoming a reality when a Vine Hill Building Committee was formed in 2006. The group was charged with overseeing the renovation and expansion of the historic 1804 house, “Vine Hill,” bequeathed to the NSLM by George L. Ohrstrom, Jr. The Museum’s groundbreaking was in 2009, the organization rebranded as the NSLM the following year, and the structure was completed in 2011.
A Decade Afield will feature highlights from the Museum’s collection of fine art through a journey of thematic sections. Works from the most important sporting artists will be on display including Reuben Ward Binks; Henri DeLattre; John Emms; Lionel Edwards; Herbert Haseltine; John Frederick Herring, Jr.; Michael Lyne; Sir Alfred Munnings; Richard Stone Reeves; Franklin Brooke Voss; and George Wright.

The National Sporting Library & Museum is located in Middleburg, VA, the heart of beautiful horse country. Founded in 1954, the renowned research Library and fine art Museum highlight the rich heritage and tradition of country pursuits. Angling, horsemanship, shooting, steeplechasing, foxhunting, flat racing, polo, coaching, and wildlife are among the subjects one can explore in the organization’s general stacks, rare book holdings, archives, and art collection. The NSLM offers a wide variety of educational programs, exhibitions, and family activities throughout the year, and is open to researchers and the public. There is no admission fee to the Library. The Museum charges $10 for adults, $8 for youths (age 13-18), and $8 for seniors. NSLM members and children age 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Library & Museum hours are Thursday–Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Museum is closed until June 3 in preparation for the unveiling of A Decade Afield.
