Colorado Western Slope Mustang Discovery Ride Project “Meet The Mustangs” Events

The Mustang Discovery Ride Project will be visiting the Western Slope of Colorado for series “Meet the Mustang” Events hosted by Friends of the Mustangs and Steadfast Steeds Mustang Sanctuary from August 31 – September 4.

The Team will be arriving in Grand Junction, Colorado on Wednesday August 31. There will be a “Parade of Mustangs” into the Mesa County Sheriff’s Posse Fairgrounds, 648 25 Rd, Grand Junction, CO 81505, September 1st where they will host a “Meet the Mustangs” event. There will also be a film screening at 6:00 PM, of the Robert Redford produced documentary, “The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses”.  An open discussion about the film led by Mustang Discovery Rider, Lisanne Fear, will be held after the screening. This event will be open to the public for FREE, donations to the Mustang Discovery Ride will be appreciated.

They will be hosted by Friends of the Mustangs while visiting Grand Junction. What is the secret to FOM’s success? Simply this: Instead of adopting an adversarial stance, members from day one has collaborated with the BLM to do what’s best for the horses. The Friends of the Mustangs in Grand Junction, Colo., has become the national model for other groups seeking to work together with the BLM in the care and management of wild horse herds all over the country. and Grand Valley Horse Rescue in Grand Junction.

Grand Valley Horse Rescue, 2327 H Road Grand Junction, will house the team while they visit Grand Junction. Grand Valley Horse Rescue was started in October of 2020 by a group of eight children ages 6-11 and two adults with the goal in mind to save horses, retrain them into youth performance horses, and provide affordable access to horses for children in the community. Since then, the rescue (GVHR), has grown in size, both in the number of riders and in the number of horses rescued and trained.

The Team will visit Steadfast Steeds Mustang Sanctuary located in Glade Park, Colorado, at 1411 S. 16 1/2 Road, on Saturday September 3rd, for interviews and filming of the Sanctuary. On Sunday September 4th a “Meet the Mustangs” event starting at 3:00 PM with a film screening, of the Robert Redford produced documentary, “The Mustangs: America’s Wild Horses”.  An open discussion about the film led by Mustang Discovery Rider, Lisanne Fear, will be held after the screening. This event will be open to the public for FREE, donations to the Mustang Discovery Ride will be appreciated.

Steadfast Steeds Mustang Sanctuary is a 501(C)3 public, charitable, impact organization devoted to showcasing America’s wild horse as a “living national treasure” in a publicly accessible environment. Grants, donations, fundraising, and educational programming support Steadfast Steeds. The Sanctuary offers people interactive experiences and skills that impact their life and their awareness of mustangs.

The Mustang Discovery Ride team is moving West on the American Discovery Trail with some new adventurers joining the ride. We have opened the ride to riders who want to have a “Long Riding’ experience. The Mustang Discovery Ride will take us on a journey across the United States, coast to coast, on American Mustangs. Rider Lisanne Fear, along with guest riders, will cover 12 states taking 12 months of riding, with the assistance of their support crew. Starting in Delaware in September 2021 and ending their journey on the California coast in November 2022.
