Senior Manager of Equine Welfare

The ASPCA has launched the new Department of Equine Welfare with a strategic and ambitious plan aimed at assuring all equines have good welfare.  We have opened a Senior Manager of Equine Welfare position to play a vital role implementing the ASPCA’s Equine Welfare work. Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Management (45%)

  • Manage equine related projects and pilots aimed toward achieving our outcomes
  • Manage, with other team members,  the Help a Horse Day contest aimed at increasing the homes for horses in rescue facilities
  • Work with internal teams and external clients to develop and execute project plans
  • Gather sufficient information to recommend new opportunities and, in partnership with the VP, Equine Welfare, act swiftly to propose a course of action
  • Provide operational support as appropriate for other ASPCA departments that support equine work
  • Seek to understand others’ perspectives and come together with others to achieve collective goals
  • Other duties as required

Data Tracking and Analysis (20%)

  • Work with Strategy, Research and Development and the Equine Data Coalition to develop processes for impact measurement
  • Manage data input and basic analysis of impact
  • Create documents for communicating data findings for multiple stakeholders
  • Guide interpretation of findings and their application to decision making for Equine Welfare projects
  • Work collaboratively with the ASPCA’s Strategy and R&D department

Equine Strategy and Relationship Development (35%)

  • Assist in the development of relationships within the equine industry
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments affecting equines including technologies, products, standards, media and campaigns
  • Form authentic, trusting relationships across ASPCA departments to enhance individual and team performance

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a relevant field such as Equine Science and Equine Studies
  • Graduate Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience a plus

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working directly in the equine industry
  • At least 3 years’ experience in managing projects
  • At least 2 years’ experience in data management
  • Ranch experience a plus
  • Experience working with government organizations and regulatory agencies a plus

Knowledge Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of equines and the equine industry
  • Knowledge of agricultural practices relating to equines
  • Basic awareness of positions of animal welfare organizations, veterinary associations and industry groups on equine issues
