SUMMARY: The Freelance Copywriter is a key member of the Consumer Creative team, supporting copywriting efforts for our SmartPak brand to produce clear, concise and compelling communications for our horse owner and pet owner audiences. In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders across teams to develop engaging on-brand messaging, educational content and promotional messaging for our customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Writes clear, concise, engaging content to build relationships with our customers, through brand awareness campaigns and targeted messaging.
  • Drives email conversion and improved subscription rates with compelling copy.
  • Develops value proposition messaging for our consumer brand and horse and
    pet owner audience.
  • Develops creative content to support a wide range of omnichannel experiences
    for web, social, email, print, video and platform experience.
  • Works alongside designers, copywriters and content creators within Consumer Creative, Marketing and Product to develop and refine marketing content.
  • Coordinates closely with internal customers and key stakeholders to achieve Creative Services and broader goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to execute projects on time and within budget

 HOURS: 20-hours a week, M-F 8:45-12:45




  • College degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related field
  • 3-5 years as a copywriter for a digital commerce or direct to consumer retail brand
  • Experience working within an in-house creative team, or in the eCommerce space preferred.


  • Strong analytical, critical, and creative-thinking skills
  • Superb writing skills with the ability to translate complex topics and technical language into compelling marketing communications for a variety of audiences. A strong command of grammar, spelling and both business and AP-style writing.
  • Creative and tech-savvy.
  • Comfortable working and engaging with all levels of the organization to identify, understand, and address communication needs.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment and can juggle multiple projects simultaneously, reprioritize quickly and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills. A self-starter with the ability to independently manage projects and deadlines.
  • Curious, empathetic and energized
  • Experience using Wrike and Jira is a plus
  • Equine experience and knowledge is a plus
