Brooke USA Foundation Celebrates Giving Tuesday

~Joining millions around the world, and Participating in the global generosity movement on November 28, 2023~

This Giving Tuesday, Brooke USA Foundation will encourage donors and friends to support Donkey Care Clubs in elementary schools across Kenya and Tanzania and raise $65,000 to implement the program in 102 schools, reaching over 3,000 school-aged children. Donkey Care Clubs are an extra-curricular activity that help children understand the importance of animals for their own livelihoods, and how best to take care of them.

Thanks to a special Giving Tuesday gift from Elizabeth RWD Stroh, every dollar given to help improve the lives of working donkeys and the people they serve in East Africa will be matched, up to $25,000. “This is a unique opportunity for supporters to double their contribution dollar-for-dollar on Nov. 28. Donations are then tripled during our Power Hours, from 11 am – 12 pm, thanks to the generosity of Lance Shoemaker, and from 7 pm – 8 pm thanks to long-time supporter, The Rombauer Family,” said Kendall Bierer, Brooke USA Donor Relations Officer.

At Donkey Care Clubs, the next generation of donkey owners learn how to care for and protect their donkeys through poetry, song, and dance. These activities are offered at schools with lessons that are extremely fun while also educational.

As their main caregivers, children are the key to a better future for working donkeys by helping to improve their welfare at home and by dispelling myths about how to treat donkeys in their communities. “Children become better equipped to understand that without their donkeys, their parents would not be able to pay for their school fees or new clothes. And they are so enthusiastic about the Donkey Care Club that they are determined to share what they are learning with their parents and the community at large,” explained Brooke USA CEO Emily Dulin.

Riding Warehouse, the leading online purveyor of equestrian products and supplies for the three main disciplines of equestrian sport: English, Western and Endurance, is running a #GivingTuesday special with 5% of all sales for the entire day donated to Brooke USA, up to $5,000 with an additional option to add a donation at checkout. Just visit www.ridingwarehouse.com to make a purchase. “We are so excited to be partnering with Brooke USA once again this Giving Tuesday to support their important work for working equines around the world. As our loyal customers support our business this season, we feel it’s our duty to give back in a way that supports these animals that ultimately unite us all together in one community,” said Alisha Goto, General Manager of Riding Warehouse.

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. Last year, Brooke USA raised $58,000 from Giving Tuesday. “This year, we hope to raise even more funds to help those in need – both human and animal. Our goal is to inspire people to give back through the end of the year and support our global initiatives,” said Dulin. “With a gift of $250 or more on Nov. 28 for GivingTuesday, supporters will receive an art piece painted by a child in a Donkey Care Club in Kenya,” she added.

Giving Tuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
