Brooke USA Announces New Board Member

Brooke USA Foundation (Brooke USA) – a non-profit, Board-led organization, dedicated to alleviating the suffering of working equines and the people they serve in the developing world – announces the election of Lisa Spoden, PhD to the Board of Directors. Dr. Spoden is an esteemed leader with a passion for improving the health, welfare, and productivity of working horses, donkeys, and mules, and has been selected to serve alongside an already impressive list of equestrian and business influencers who guide Brooke USA’s success.

Dr. Spoden lives in Delray Beach, FL, and devotes most of her time to real estate with Lang Realty in Southeastern Florida.  When not busy selling luxury dream homes to snowbirds and those relocating to the Sunshine State, she supports her husband, Tareq Salahi, his passion for polo and his participation in the International Polo Tour which, by the way, makes waves in the world of international polo by consistently winning major tournaments.

Formerly, Dr. Spoden was co-owner of Strategic Health Care, a consulting firm she sold several years ago. She was also a practicing health care executive for almost 30 years. Her strategic planning and program development expertise is coupled with practical management know-how, having previously worked as vice president of large hospitals and health care systems and served as an administrator for both primary care and multi-specialty group medical practices.

Dr. Spoden has authored and been quoted in numerous articles for professional and trade journals. She has contributed to books and wrote “Managed Care Contracting Survival Guide for Providers,” which was released in 2007.

Brooke USA’s Board of Directors is currently led by Chair Katherine Kaneb, who noted about the recent Board appointment that, “reaching all those with a passion for the equestrian sport across the country remains a priority for this nonprofit, as we work together to expand geographically, reach more supporters, and grow Brooke USA for the benefit of people and animals in need.”

“Lisa embodies the spirit of Brooke USA and as a former healthcare administrator, she has planning, marketing, and operations expertise, all skills needed to further complement our Board of Directors. We are very fortunate to have Lisa by our side as we continue to increase brand recognition and build a strong foundation of donors and friends throughout the country,” stated Emily Dulin, Chief Executive Officer.
