Winning Ways with Western Dressage First Events are Resounding Success

The long-time team of Lynn Palm and Marie-Frances Davis joined forces to promote the growth of Western Dressage among American Quarter Horse enthusiasts by providing a welcoming environment through competition and education for newcomers as well as current participants.

The expertise of Palm as an AQHA Judge, USEF Western Dressage R Judge, World Champion Competitor and international clinician and Davis, AQHA Show Manager, WDAA World Champion and Horse of the Year Champion, bring a unique set of skills to the Winning Ways Showing and Growing experience. The relationship between Ambassador Lynn Palm and Purina Horse Feed is a perfect fit also. With the support of Purina providing prizes to competitors and equine nutrition education throughout the weekend, their longtime partnership is a key to the weekend’s success.

The inaugural event in June 2022 at The Grand Oaks Resort in Weirsdale, FL saw more than 30 tests ridden by over 15 riders representing a dozen different breeds. With the show being approved for AQHA Western Dressage points, the 6 American Quarter Horses earned a total of 26.5 AQHA points. One rider even earned her AQHA Register of Merit. In addition, countless Lifetime Points were recorded for the WDAA Awards Program. Following the show both professionals and amateurs grew their tests scores with one one one training time with Palm.

The following month, Claddagh Farm in New Richmond, WI, hosted a fantastic weekend. While the AQHA/WDAA show saw over 40 tests ridden by 20 riders from Introductory Level to Level 2, the growing portion of the weekend was even more well received with 8 riders Growing their Tests Scores and Skills working with Palm the following 3 days. Again over 20 AQHA Western Dressage points were earned along with several WDAA Lifetime Awards points. All the while, horses and riders were enjoying the camaraderie and relaxed competition and learning environment.

Purina graciously donated a ton of feed to each of the two events and the winners were recognized in Open and Amateur Divisions. The following high score earners were awarded: Florida Open High Score Tim Christensen Myakka City, FL and Reserve High Score Kayla Short Holder, FL and Amateurs High Score Diane Davitt Osteen, FL and Andrea Browning Reddick, FL. The Wisconsin winners were Open High Score Rebecca Dennis Stillwater, MN and Katie Lins Rochester, MN and Amateurs Julie Cain Stillwater, MN and Anna Bentler Marathon, WI.

Palm and Davis look to 2023 to continue the success and growth of Winning Ways with Western Dressage. Current plans include locations throughout the US and abroad. The team is open to suggestions for quality, exhibitor friendly facilities with amenities for horses and riders in areas interested in growing Western Dressage.
