The Freelance Remuda Focuses on Setting Goals and Building Community in Final 2022 Episode, Offers Mentorship Discount

The Freelance Remuda launched “Episode 43: Setting Goals and Building Community” this week with guest Mandee Flanders of the successful equine business owners’ podcast “The Leadline Podcast.” Hosts Abigail Boatwright and Kate Bradley Byars continue to produce the award-winning equine media-focused podcast format of segmented episodes that bring listeners as much information, and entertainment, as possible in each segment. This episode is all about business!

The Freelance Remuda Podcast is produced for freelance professionals who are navigating the equine media frontier. It’s available on freelanceremuda.com, through Apple Podcasts and Libsyn, and now Spotify and Stitcher. The episode, which launched in on Tuesday, December 20, includes two segments.

Flanders, located in New York, is an event marketing professional and has worked with experiential event campaigns for brands such as Google and Ralph Lauren. She created The Leadline Community for Horse Business Owners as a way for equine business owners to connect, both virtually and in person. The Freelance Remuda segment focuses on how she built the Leadline community and how she finds guests to highlight through her podcast.

“A good podcast is about telling a story and connecting with your listener,” says Flanders in the episode. “I’m looking for entrepreneurs that are a little bit new but have been in business for a little while, so they have learned some of the lessons that we learn as entrepreneurs in business and can come on the show and share their expertise about what it is that’s worked for them. I’m really looking for those unique stories that can focus in on that topic.”

In the second segment, hosts Boatwright and Byars discuss their challenges from 2023 and also how each is working toward goals in 2023—branching out to other magazines and into different industries, as well as going with the ever-changing flow of equine media. However, the big news of the episode came at the end. The Freelance Remuda Mentorship Program is being offered for a 10 percent discount until January 5th.

Those looking to make a splash and gain regular work within the industry also have a chance to mentor under Boatwright and Byars through the Freelance Remuda Mentorship Program, which offers three levels of immersive learning. The mentorship has assisted several individuals who are now regular contributors to magazines like Horse Illustrated, Horse & Rider, Western Horseman, Barrel Horse News, Reined Cow Horse News, Chrome and the Paint Horse Journal.

“My mentorship through The Freelance Remuda played an essential role in my ability to transition into my dream career freelance writing within the equine industry,” says Jessica Lash, 2022 mentee. “Within six months of completing my mentorship, I had my first feature article published in an internationally circulated horse publication. I will always be grateful to Kate and Abigail for giving me the courage and knowledge to chase my dreams.”

The Freelance Remuda podcast is produced every other month, with a blog post produced on the off months, thus providing equine media members with robust information to help navigate the industry. Additionally, an archive of podcast episodes provides a great resource for those wanting to understand how to forge a path through the horse industry with ease and professional grace.
