Children’s Pony Book Author Featured at Southern Author Expo

North Carolina author, Kathy Simmers, has been selected as a featured writer at the Southern Author Expo in Greenville, SC on January 21, 2023 for her picture book, Jump the Moon.

Writers from all genres who live in the southeast United States were eligible to submit their published work for the Expo.

Jump the Moon is Kathy’s first book. She partnered with internationally recognized illustrator Marjorie van Heerden.  Marjorie has illustrated over 160 children’s books and she was named Children’s Book Laureate of South Africa in 2022. Her exquisite illustrations bring the story of the girl with the long blond hair and her pony to life.

Based on a true story, Jump the Moon is about the magical bond between a girl with long blond hair and her pony, Me Too.  This beautiful picture book takes readers young and old on an emotional journey that inspires us all to listen to your heart, follow your dreams and never, ever give up. While loved by all, this touching story is especially moving for anyone who has ever loved a horse, been loved by a horse or wanted to love a horse.

Jump the Moon received a Gold Award from the Independent Book Publishers Association, a Gold Award from the Equus Film Festival and the Mom’s Choice Gold Award.

Kathy left her CPA practice in NY to live on a farm in NC.  She now lives in Pittsboro, NC with her husband, her horses and an assortment of other farm animals. She enjoys hosting “meet the author” visits with children at her farm and sharing her love of animals with them.

Her next book, Posey’s Problem, also about a pony, is due to be published in October 2023.

The girl with the long, blond hair is now a mom who lives in Cary, NC.

Kathy is passionate about encouraging everyone to live their best life.
