Entries Open and Prize List Available for 2023 WIHS Regional Horse Show & USHJA Zone 3 Championship

Entries are now open for the 2023 WIHS Regional Horse Show & USHJA Zone 3 Championship presented by TTR Sotheby’s International Realty and the Lowham-Ruzzo Family, taking place on October 19-22, 2023, at the Salem Farm Showgrounds in Upperville, VA. The popular four-day competition will offer a variety of hunter, jumper, and equitation classes, including exciting qualifying classes for the 2023 Washington International Horse Show. Entries close Monday, October 2.

WIHS Regional Hunter Finals Return

After a three-year absence, the WIHS Regional Hunter Finals and WIHS Regional Pony Hunter Finals will again be held at the Washington International Horse Show at The Show Place Arena, on Monday, October 23. The top four horses in each WIHS Regional Children’s and Adult Hunter division and the top five ponies in the WIHS Regional Pony Hunter division at the WIHS Regional Horse Show will qualify for the WIHS Regional Hunter Finals and WIHS Regional Pony Hunter Finals at The Show Place Arena.

USHJA Zone 3 Championship

The USHJA Zone 3 Championship will be held on Sunday, October 22, with hunter, jumper, and hunter breeding (Thursday) sections. The top horses in each division, based on total USHJA points, will be invited to compete. Invitations will be sent in early October.

2023 WIHS Regional Horse Show Highlights

  • Top entries in the WIHS Regional Hunter and WIHS Regional Pony Hunter divisions will automatically qualify for the WIHS Regional Hunter Finals and WIHS Regional Pony Hunter Finals at The Show Place Arena.
  • Overall champions in the Children’s and Adult Hunter and Jumper divisions will automatically qualify for the WIHS Championships at The Show Place Arena.
  • 12th Annual Laura Pickett Excellence in Horsemanship Award presented by Victoria Lowell and Charles Ancona. Nominations open on Thursday, September 14.
  • The Maryland Horse Shows Association’s (MHSA) horsemanship contest returns to the 2023 WIHS Regional Horse Show. The contest, which will be divided into three age groups — young juniors, older juniors, and adults — includes a written test and a hands-on horse practicum.   • MHSA Gittings Horsemanship Finals on Saturday, October 21
  • USHJA Zone 3 Championship for Hunter Breeding on Thursday, October 19

  • New this year, The Papillon Peanut Perpetual Trophy donated by Wendy Libert will be awarded to the Grand Champion Adult Jumper.
