Innovation and Discovery Grants Open with Increased Opportunities Thanks to $500,000 Gift and Challenge from Coyote Rock Ranch

Grants up to $50,000 are now available for application until June 30, 2024, for established investigators working on cutting edge innovative research at accredited institutions.

The Foundation for the Horse will be investing heavily in the future of equines through its Innovation and Discovery Research grant program thanks to the support of many donors and especially the generosity of Mrs. Penelope Knight and her Coyote Rock Ranch.  In the fall of 2023, Mrs. Knight made a $500,000 gift dedicated to dramatically increasing the impact on horses and equine medicine, through this research program.

This gift not only underscores her unwavering commitment to equine health but also sets the stage for a new fundraising goal. With this gift, The Foundation is setting a goal to raise another $500,000 dedicate for Innovation and Discovery projects, to match Mrs. Knight’s gift by the end of 2024.

Since launching this research grant program for established investigators in 2022, The Foundation for the Horse has made significant strides in supporting equine health research. To date, the organization has awarded $443,981 in Innovation grants, funding 10 critical projects across nine esteemed institutions.

“We are incredibly grateful for Mrs. Knight’s continued support and her dedication to improving equine health,” said David Foley, Executive Director of The Foundation for the Horse. “Her contributions have already made a substantial impact, and thanks to her challenge gift, we are excited about the potential to support even more state-of-the-art research projects that can lead to significant medical breakthroughs.”

The Foundation for the Horse is accepting applications for proposals through June 30, 2024, that demonstrate innovation, scientific rigor, and a clear potential to improve equine health outcomes.
