Founder and Executive Director Dr. Karin Bump leads NAEAA Workshop on Indicators of Excellence (IOE)

The National Association of Equine Affiliated Academics (NAEAA) will be holding a Zoom-based workshop February 2nd from 6:30-8:30pm (EST) for those interested in exploring use of the NAEAA Indicators of Excellence (IOE) model for programmatic review of equine undergraduate offerings. The model is designed for use in external review yet is equally suitable for use in internal self-study and strategic planning.  The workshop will be led by NAEAA Founder and Executive Director Dr. Karin Bump.

Dr. Karin Bump is a passionate educator and change agent with a career trajectory that includes 28 years as a Professor in equine studies and business management and 4 years as an Executive Director within the Cornell Cooperative Extension system. She is a member of the Extension Horses work team, an Impact Collaborative facilitator through eXtension, and a small business owner.  Karin, along with her husband Tim Williams, founded the National Association of Equine Affiliated Academics nonprofit organization in 2009 (  As a team they have launched several other education and outreach initiatives including the Equine Education Network (,  The World of Horses exhibit at the NYS Fair, and Saddle Up NY! (

The NAEAA IOE external review model involves evaluation of self-study materials documenting institutional commitment and programmatic outcomes related to five Standards of Excellence constructs:   Equine Student Knowledge and Skills; Critical Thinking and Communication; Trajectory of Graduates; Program Reputation; and Program Sustainability.

Engaging in academic program review is a critical part of quality higher education, and the inclusion of external review insures an objective third-party perspective for integrity and public confidence. A challenge for undergraduate equine offerings is that the unique characteristics and components of these programs are often missed in traditional program reviews.  The NAEAA IOE model encompasses these and thereby ensures that they are taken into consideration for programmatic quality, health, and sustainability.

The workshop is free to NAEAA members. Those not already members – or current on membership – can join the organization for $35 and then register for the program:
