“The beauty of this sport is that you never stop learning,” says Goodnight. “Your ability to communicate with the horse, understand its behavior, to be a better leader, to ride better, gain control, or develop trust from your horse … every horse comes with a new set of lessons to be learned.”

Goodnight has coached riders of all backgrounds, ability levels and interests over a career that spans decades. Known for her clear communication and teaching ability, she formed this online coaching program to give riders access to the help they need to expand their knowledge and skills.

“I feel strongly that it is always important to meet each horse and rider where they are now, and find ways to make them better together,” says Goodnight. “As a new member, you’ll do lots of evaluation of your horse, its training level, what holes need filling, and of yourself. We’ll drill down on developing your riding skills, raising your confidence, and setting realistic and prioritized goals.”

Additionally, Goodnight put together a series of assignments—complete with study resources and practice exercises—on horse behavior, ground work, training under-saddle, and equitation.

“I enjoy starting each day interacting with my students, offering feedback on a video they send me, helping them find solutions to problems, or working with them to decide what exercises to focus on,” says Goodnight.

“I work with riders from all disciplines and horses of all breeds– good horsemanship is good for everyone. I’ve got some coaching students that are brand new to horses and need help just learning how to navigate the world of equestrian sports. And I have some members who are riding instructors and coaches themselves, who strive to learn more so they can better help others.”

Interactive Goodnight Academy students also gain access to Goodnight’s full library of horsemanship resources. Search over 900 educational articles, full episodes from every season of Horse Master, videos with training tips, and everything from horse behavior to flying lead changes.
