Award-winning author Hope Ellis-Ashburn is thrilled to announce her newest release, New Horse Journal.

As with much of Hope’s writing, her recently released journal was inspired by her life on the farm and her horses. Shortly after purchasing her new horse, Bucky, she sought out a journal to keep a written record of their journey. Unable to find exactly what she needed; she developed her own. Her journal was created with an eye toward helping fellow equestrians with similar needs.

Crafted with her unique blended background of educator and equestrian the book includes sections for horse owners to record information about their new horse including what drew them to him or her at the time of purchase, a grading rubric to help systematically score each session with your new horse, and pages of riding notes with prompts designed to help the rider record just the right information after each day’s session. It creates an easy tracking system for progress while still leaving space for riders to record additional information on their own.

While the journal was primarily created for someone who has recently purchased a new horse or as a congratulatory gift for someone who has done so, the journal is nevertheless a great fit for any rider who enjoys journaling about working with their horse. “I’m delighted to release this fun and useful journal to meet a wide variety of needs,” Ellis-Ashburn said.

Hope Ellis-Ashburn is a freelance writer and author. She earned her master of science degree in agricultural education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and her bachelor of science degree in animal science – horse science from Middle Tennessee State University. While attending MTSU she was a member of the horse judging and equestrian teams. She is a veteran educator and life-long equestrian. A former award-winning extension agent with UTK, Hope also holds a teaching certificate in agriculture education. Her work has been featured in EQUUS, Horse Illustrated, the American Quarter Horse Journal, Arabian Horse Life, US Equestrian, Hoof Beats, The Sound Advocate, Experience Arabian Horses, Arabian Horse Times, Sidelines, and Hobby Farms magazines. Her first book, Always Hope: How Dairy Cows and Arabian Horses Inspired Grit in a Young Girl’s Life was named Best Memoir at the 2019 EQUUS Film and Arts Festival. Her second book, Kimbrook Arabians: How an Unlikely Midwestern Couple Influenced an Ancient Breed was named Reserve Champion in equine history at the same festival in 2021.
