Unprecedented Competitions bring the best West.

Three national equestrian championships and $100,000 in prize money highlight this week’s Eventing Championships at Galway Downs Equestrian.

In other words – the best are coming West.

Close to 400 horses are settling into the 242-acre Galway Downs venue, over 100 of them entered in the challenging and highly-competitive international divisions. They hail from Canada, Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Washington, Oregon and beyond. And, of course, California.

These National titles up for grabs:

  • 2023 USEF CCI2*-L Eventing National Championships
  • 2023 USEF CCI4*-L Eventing National Championships
  • 2023 USEF Eventing Young Rider National Championships, presented by USEA.

The United States Eventing Association’s Area VI Championship shares center stage at the Eventing Championships this year for the first time. Area VI encompasses California and Hawaii. In an unprecedented move, however, Area VI’s leaders received permission to welcome out-of-area contenders in their Championships.

As a result, a battle royale is expected in the 11 national divisions with Area VI Championships.

This week also features Galway Downs’ unique “Challenge” format, held in four levels from Novice-Beginner Novice to Preliminary-Modified. The Challenges help entrants prepare to move up into the next level and give horses and riders the same international atmosphere that showcases the most advanced pairs.

The international competitive action begins the morning of Thursday, Nov. 2 with the dressage phase, cross-country on Friday and the thrilling show jumping conclusion on Saturday in front of a long-ago sold-out VIP Pavilion. The national divisions also start with dressage on Thursday and conclude with show jumping on Sunday, Nov. 5.

Admission and parking are free. See the Fast Facts below for general admission tickets and where to follow the action if you cannot attend in person.
