Welcome New Board Members Jennifer Bryant, Diana DeRosa, and Keith Dane

Elections for the AHP Board of Directors were held on June 24, 2023, at the General Membership Meeting during the Meet at the Mesa Conference, Tempe, Arizona. Three new directors, Jennifer Bryant, Diana De Rosa, and Keith Dane, were added to the board. Emily Dulin was re-elected to a three-year term.

 Jennifer Bryant

Jennifer Bryant, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, is a full-time freelance writer, editor, photographer, and blogger. She is the editor of the United States Dressage Federation’s award-winning member magazine, USDF Connection, and a contributor to many print and digital equestrian media, including The Horse: Your Guide to Equine Health Care, Practical Horseman, and The Chronicle of the Horse. She is the author of The USDF Guide to Dressage and Olympic Equestrian: A Century of International Horse Sport. Her book, co-authored with American dressage trainer Betsy Steiner, A Gymnastic Riding System Using Mind, Body & Spirit, was the first dressage-specific training text translated from English into German by the German FN.

Jennifer is a past president of American Horse Publications, the USA’s equine-media industry organization, and a longtime AHP member. For her efforts in developing opportunities for freelancers within the AHP structure, she was honored with the AHP Champion award in 2016. She has been an IAEJ member since the early 2000s. She has covered two Olympic Games, three FEI World Equestrian Games, and three FEI World Cup Dressage Finals, writing feature stories, blogging, and photographing.

Before she became involved with the equine-media world, Jennifer worked as an editor of business and management books. She has since edited, developed, or consulted on several equine nonfiction titles.

A longtime horse owner, Jennifer rode hunter-seat equitation and eventers before focusing on dressage. She is a USDF bronze and silver medalist. In 2017, she and her Westfalen gelding, Dux, earned a reserve championship at the Great American/USDF Region 8 championships and finished in the top ten at the U.S. Dressage Finals.

Keith Dane

Keith Dane is a horseman who has been involved with gaited horses for most of his life as an owner, breeder, and amateur trainer/exhibitor.  His involvement began with Tennessee Walking Horses, and he has always been dedicated to promoting and protecting the breed.  He is also a horse show judge licensed with many gaited breed organizations and has experience in North America and Europe, having judged several national and international championships.

Dane has been working to protect horses for more than thirty years.  He co-founded one of the first show organizations for sound gaited horses, which was created as an alternative to the “Big Lick” shows that involve cruelty in training, and served as its president for several years.  He later served the Friends of Sound Horses (FOSH) organization as its president and Director of Judges for its Independent Judges Association.

As Senior Director of Equine Protection for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Dane directs the domestic horse welfare policy work for the nation’s largest animal protection organization.  Those efforts include securing the passage of state and federal legislation to improve the welfare of horses used in sport, work, and racing, protecting America’s horses from slaughter in the U.S. and abroad, and the rehoming of America’s at-risk and homeless horses.

Prior to joining HSUS, Dane served as executive director of FOSH. He served as its liaison to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its certified inspection program under the Horse Protection Act.

Diana De Rosa

Diana De Rosa is a veteran equestrian photojournalist who has traveled the world (over 40 countries) and recorded equestrian history for over 40 years.

After college, De Rosa ran a riding school, then was editor of Horse World USA, and eventually focused on her writing, photography, and P.R. skills. She has over 1000 published articles/photos and has numerous photography awards. She is also an MC for awards ceremonies, moderates panel discussions, and does video interviews and public speaking.

De Rosa has covered nine Olympic Games and been on staff or covered every World Equestrian Games, numerous Pan American Games, and World Cups.
