Nikki’s Notes:  Are You Harnessing The Magic Of Social Media Or Being Driven Mad By It? Or Both?

Avant Marketeer Nikki Alvint-Smith Offers Timely Insights For Your Marketing Delight

“If you’ve been following the latest ‘thread,’ then you know the meta world is expanding its grasp with their recent launch of the hot platform, “Threads.” The general public have welcomed it with open arms, and B2C and B2B marketing mavens certainly won’t be ignoring its potential.

The hazards of overindulging in the social platform marketplace can do more than bust open the marketing budget, it can bring a torrent of work that’s enough to drown even the most creative business owner.

The increasingly temporary and flippant nature of market metrics and forces notwithstanding, it looks like this newest threat to Twitter has legs and so pulling a chair up to the Threads table looks like something a savvy marketing guru will be forced to do in the hopes of engaging in conversation with the possibly new players. Though an initial duplication of audiences with Instagram is obviously where followers will kick off.

The ardent advocacy of the PR/Marketing profession is that frequency of posting relevant and engaging content on socials is essential for the success of the modern-day business. While scheduling options help to maintain the social marketing management teams’ sanity, keeping up with appearances is increasingly costly with its short shelf life and everchanging landscape. Thus, the question becomes, what’s the best course of action to address the B2C and B2B vista with this new platform expansion from the meta universe?

The use of each particular social platform comes with its own bevy of political connotations, so many brands have historically (and wisely in my humble opinion), been reluctant to engage with new apps and media options without waiting on the sidelines to see how the dust settles. There are many good reasons to avoid claiming your page too early, and pitfalls to leaving it too late. But that’s a menu item for a different occasion.

If your business or brand currently enjoys a solid following on Instagram, then opening up the Threads portal that is more text than visually based makes good sense. That’s likely an immediate boost to your reach. Ultimately Facebook will almost certainly also be linked to Threads, but that might take a while. If Facebook is your main social platform, then trying to build Instagram to make Threads make sense for quick communication, may not be the best use of your time. And the question remains, will Threads last and will it also offer advertising options?

Advertising is the bread-and-butter income for Meta but if you currently offer a niche brand and have to pay your way to draw attention then Threads isn’t going to be much use for your business.

In conclusion, in my professional opinion (and the advice I’m sharing with my roster of clients), is to adopt a wait and see policy unless their brand(s) is already smashing it on Instagram.

Sidebar to my fellow content writers that like me, currently deliver wordsmith skills to brands big, medium, and small: If the yarn that the Threads universe spins is permanently weaved into the marketing fabric, then from what I’ve researched with industry colleagues in the upper echelons of the marketing world it’s good news for us. It is already clear that unique, non-AI produced content will become even more keenly important and our creative spirits will be kept busy feeding the websites, blogs, vlogs, features, and other aspects of the sales funnel wheel because another social media platform will still need ‘stuff’ to talk about and thought leadership based content to educate the target audience.

It is also worth noting that while copyright and intellectual property right infringement with AI development and use is sure to become a major issue on the go forward, there are many organizations where support for the writer can be garnered. Keep your eye on the WGA and other industry leaders, for they are forging a path that we are all destined to travel. As a script writer myself for a multi-media company and working with a regional chapter of the NY Film Commission in recent months, as well as my ongoing tour as a PR team member for two ‘B’ List celebrities, our creative identities are not secure but there is hope for obtaining better legal protections for our authorship in the future.

As always, I am ready to help business owners with their content needs, provide consultation services on brand building and offer strategic marketing modules that will build a brighter and better future for equine and pet industry concerns. It’s fun, I’m passionate about it, and it’s what I love to do!”
