Dorothy Brooke Orchestra Kicks-Off in The Foothills of the Carolinas:

A perfect way to honor Dorothy Brooke, founder of Brooke USA

The Dorothy Brooke Orchestra, a new musical ensemble dedicated to promoting the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people they serve across the globe, has been created to perform at Brooke USA’s Divertimentos & Dressage this Fall. Hosted by Brooke USA’s Foothills Advisory Council and since 2019, Divertimentos & Dressage has served as Brooke USA’s leading fundraiser in the area.

Named after Dorothy Brooke, the founder of the Brooke family of charities, the orchestra, directed by Kyle Elgarten, Assistant Conductor for the Palm Beach Symphony, and comprised of leading musicians from North and South Carolina, will perform with leading dressage riders, on Thursday, October 19 at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. The orchestra’s debut performance will feature a variety of musical styles with works by classical composers as well as pop music and jazz compositions.

Divertimentos & Dressage is a one-of-a-kind performance by dressage riders, mastering art and competition while performing choreographed movements with their Grand Prix horses to a live symphony orchestra.

“We are thrilled to launch the Dorothy Brooke Orchestra right here in The Foothills,” said Sally Frick, Chair of the Brooke USA’s Foothills Advisory Council, and mastermind of the highly acclaimed Divertimentos & Dressage. “Our goal is to use the power of music to raise awareness about the important work of Brooke USA, dedicated to funding a multitude of projects in vulnerable communities all over the world and right here in the United States. Our hope is to inspire people to support our important projects for working equines and their owners.”

“We are so excited to have created the Dorothy Brooke Orchestra,” said Emily Dulin, CEO of Brooke USA. “Working equines are an essential part of many communities around the world, and we are committed to improving their welfare and ensuring that they receive the care and support they need. We can only make this happen through the financial support of those who attend our fundraising events such as Divertimentos & Dressage.”

Tickets to Divertimentos Dressage are available now at www.BrookeUSAevents.org. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Donkey Project, a one-year campaign launched on July 1 to raise $1.5 million in support of 100,000 donkeys worldwide. “$15 a year is all it takes to help improve the quality of life of a working donkey, including improved nutrition, access to farriery services, better harnessing and compassionate handling,” added Dulin.
