Brooke USA Brings EO, a Moving Epic About a Donkey, to Southern Pines

Join the Special one-time screening of the Oscar-nominated foreign movie

Brooke USA Foundation will be hosting a one-time screening of the critically acclaimed movie “EO” directed by Polish master Jerzy Skolimowski. “EO” is a story about an innocent donkey who travels the Polish and Italian countryside and encounters an array of people – good and bad.

“EO” will be presented on Thursday, September 14, 7 p.m. (with a pre-party and auction at 6 p.m. for sponsors and VIPs), at the Sunrise Theater, 250 NW Broad St, Southern Pines, NC. All proceeds from the event benefit Brooke USA and its mission to alleviate the suffering of working donkeys and other equines, and the people who depend on them in vulnerable communities across the globe. For information on purchasing tickets (general admission and VIP) or securing sponsorship options, visit www.BrookeUSAevents.org.

The upcoming screening of “EO” provides Southern Pines residents with the opportunity to view this unique movie which centers on the donkey as protagonist rather than a supporting figure. The audience will see the world through the eyes of the donkey, a unique perspective and one that has won many accolades from movie critics everywhere. “I believe that movies should spark dialogue and lead to a better understanding of world issues. It is through igniting our own curiosity that we can create awareness for various causes,” said Mary Warlick, Event Co-Chair, Emmy Award winner, and Southern Pines resident. “Undoubtedly, EO explores humankind – the good, the bad and the ugly – with grit and passion. EO strives to raise the well-being of not only donkeys but all animals. This movie helps us grow, and hopefully, will lead us to share our voices with those that do not have one,” she added.

Jim Hamilton, DVM, Chairman of the Board of Brooke USA and co-owner of Southern Pines Equine Associates, explained that “there are many parallels between EO and the work of Brooke USA. The donkey in EO could live anywhere in the world and reminds us that only humans can make the world a better place for all – animals and humans alike.” Dr. Hamilton added, “our goal is to raise $30,000 from the one-time movie viewing and knowing the generosity of my community, I know we can. I hope to see familiar faces arrive in droves at the screening.”

About Brooke USA Foundation (Brooke USA): The mission of Brooke USA is to significantly improve the health, welfare and productivity of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people who depend on them for survival worldwide. We are committed to sustainable economic development by reducing poverty, increasing food security, ensuring access to water, providing a means to education, and raising basic standards of living through improved equine health and welfare. We accomplish this by raising funds and responsibly directing them to the areas of greatest need.

Brooke USA strives to alleviate the suffering and vulnerability of developing communities by funding and implementing programs that improve the quality of life and health of working equines and thereby positively impacting their economic sustainability, protecting the planet, ensuring gender equality, and guaranteeing life on land resilience. We want to see healthy, happy people and equines that work in partnership to achieve sustainable local economies.

About The Donkey Project: Brooke USA’s “The Donkey Project” is a year-long campaign set to raise an ambitious $1.5 million by June 30, 2024. “The Donkey Project” is intended to grow the organization’s depth of work while raising more funds in support of working donkeys and the people who depend on them for survival in vulnerable communities worldwide. For 600 million people in some of the poorest places in the world, 100 million of these animals and other equines are the backbone of communities and their best means of making a living. Without healthy working donkeys, people would not be able to put food on their tables, send their children to school or build better futures for themselves and their families. In sum, donkeys are essential to the livelihoods of people in developing countries. “The Donkey Project” aims to radically raise the profile of donkeys all over the world.
