IHSA/NRHA Semi-Finals Dates and Hosts Announced

The leadership of the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) is pleased to announce the dates and hosts for the IHSA Western Semi-Finals, sponsored by the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA).

The three Western Semi-Finals will be held March 18-19, 2023.

Semi-Finals represent the final step for IHSA Western teams and individuals on their quest to compete at IHSA Nationals. Regions are assigned to a respective Semi-Final based upon a number of factors, including participation in hosting a Semi-Final, placement in the previous years National Championships and distance to travel. Regions will send their regional champion Western team, plus the top two individuals in each division, to their perspective Semi-Final.

“Discover the 12-Team Difference! For decades, the IHSA has offered students and coaches collegiate Western equestrian opportunities. An exponential growth in quality has led the IHSA to create further opportunities, leading us to create the 12-team difference,” shared Conner Smith, IHSA board member and Midway University’s head Western coach. “To best represent all of the great teams within the IHSA, we are excited to announce that the top four teams from each of the three Semi-Finals will advance to the IHSA National Championship Show.”

“We are very excited to have an additional team move forward to the National Championship and we hope that the IHSA members are, too!” said Smith.

ABOUT THE IHSA

The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) welcomes all genders at all riding levels and offers individual and team competition in hunter seat equitation, Western horsemanship and reining at more than 400 member colleges and universities. Membership in IHSA means college students can participate in horse shows regardless of their experience or financial status. Students compete from beginner through advanced with suitable, provided horses, eliminating the expense of horse ownership.

Founded in 1967 by Bob Cacchione, it is the oldest and largest intercollegiate equestrian organization with 10,000 members in 47 states and Canada. IHSA college and university team participation is represented through a variety of programs, including varsity athletics, academic departments and club sports. IHSA offers valuable hands-on experience and professional development in multiple facets of the equine industry. Many IHSA teams participate in service projects, giving back to their communities. Through the IHSA, students enhance their college experience and develop the tools that help build successful careers.
